Guidelines for Food and Beverage Sales in BC Schools
The 2007 Guidelines is the key document that guides healthier food choices for hot lunches, Breakfast Programs, vending machines, and school cafeterias. Check out these resources:

3) Healthy eating at school. "Bake Better Bites: Recipes and Tips for Healthier Baked Goods"is a recipe book for parents, community volunteers, school staff, and students to use when preparing baked goods for sale to students. Released in April 2008, it includes recipes that meet the Guidelines for Food and Beverage Sales in BC Schools, as well as tips to make favourite recipes healthier.

This resource, produced by DASH! BC, provides a range of fundraising ideas for sales, services and events that support your school's healthy living goals.
Canada's NEW Food Guide, 2007
Health Canada released a new Food Guide for all Canadians two years of age or older. Many new features were added to match the growing diversity of the Canadian population, including an interactive website, an Educators and Communicators Guide, as well as a first ever Food Guide for First Nations, Inuit and Métis. The Guide is also available in French, Punjabi, Chinese, Farsi, Korean, Spanish, and more.
Free Healthy Living for Families booklets
ActNow BC has produced four new resources that will help inform students and their families about the importance of healthy living. The resources are tailored to: Kindergarten-Grade 3, Grades 4-7, Grades 8-9, and Grades 10-12.
Programs and Grants
School Fruit and Vegetable Snack Program
This free fruit and vegetable snack program is offered to BC schools by the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands. Some schools at SD42 have been accepted to the program. Those that were not successful or have not yet applied are encouraged to apply.
School Milk Programs
Elementary schools can become eligible for free fridges by signing up for the BC Dairy Foundation “School Milk Program”. Schools must commit to serve milk to their students 3-5 times per week for 3-4 years. Find out more about the program through.
Breakfast and Snack Programs Funding
Grants for Breakfast and Snack Programs from $500.00 - $2000.00 are available through DASH BC. The deadline for applications for the 2009-10 academic year is October 15, 2009.
